Faculty Scientific Advisor, Core for Precision Resource Utilization

Gary Weissman a faculty scientific advisor at the Core for Precision Resource Utilization and an assistant professor of medicine and informatics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. 

In his clinical work, Gary cares for patients with sepsis, respiratory failure, and other life-threatening conditions in the medical intensive care unit at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on the development of predictive clinical decision support systems using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) methods. His lab builds such systems to support complex decision-making under uncertainty to promote population health management, diagnostic excellence, and personalized treatments. His work also seeks to promote equity and transparency in the policy interventions and frameworks related to the evaluation and regulation of AI/ML clinical decision support systems. 

Gary was selected in 2024 as a National Academy of Medicine Scholar in Diagnostic Excellence, and his work has been supported by several NIH grants from NHLBI, NIA, and NIGMS.
 
Gary received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, his medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, and his Master of Science in health policy research from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He completed residency training in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
