Hilena Addis is a research program manager at the Center for Health Justice, where she leads initiatives focused on improving health outcomes in under-resourced communities across Philadelphia.

Prior to joining the team, Hilena managed clinical trial operations for leukemia studies at Penn’s Abramson Cancer Center, with a focus on integrating palliative care to enhance patient well-being and alleviate caregiver burden. During this time, she also played a pivotal role in developing a training manual and preparing a lay health workforce to scale up Ethiopia’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hilena is passionate about health equity, inclusive policymaking, and global health. She is particularly interested in community engagement within research and exploring how economic systems and design principles can be leveraged to promote equitable health outcomes. She holds a bachelor’s degree in public health from the Johns Hopkins University and a master’s degree in health care innovation from the University of Pennsylvania.
