Text message-based survey sheds light on experiences of racism

Leveraging Way to Health’s automated texting capabilities, Anish Agarwal, Raina Merchant, and colleagues surveyed patients discharged from the emergency department about whether racism had affected their care. A significant number of Black patients said race negatively impacted their care in areas such as communication, quality, and respect. This study demonstrates that text messaging can be a feasible means of collecting patient-reported experiences of racism.
